Petting, Pop And Reader's Letters

The Lure Of BRAVO, The World's Ultimate Teenage Mag

BRAVO, the most successful magazine alongside SPIEGEL and STERN, celebrated its 40th anniversary in 1996. Always a reflection of current youth, the magazine covers all the interests of its young readers — a loyal companion through puberty. Journalists Petra Höfer and Freddie Röckenhaus documented the work of BRAVO, ranging from photo shoots, the “Love & Sex Report” and the creation of a photo story, to fashion tips and letters to the editor. They take a look in the archives, with footage of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones among others, that gave a voice to BRAVO staff members as well as its readers.

Caught between sex education and socialisation, between categorised as harmful content and the pressure to adequately educate youth, BRAVO has offered everything from entertainment to advice and critical reflection on topics such as pollution and sexual assault. Every generation seems to get the BRAVO they deserve.
