A Downshifter In Search Of Peace Of Mind - Running A Swiss Mountain Cabin
Armin Braun’s life seemed perfect: an impressive career as an Electronic Data Processing manager, a big salary, and free time spent with friends and sport. A life of wealth and good order — but also logical, predetermined, and, for Braun, entailing a strange boredom. The ex-manager now leads a life as a dropout from society: in winter among shoemakers and casual employment, in summer as an alpine dairy worker on the Swiss Büdemji Alp.
Braun is not the only soul on the farm fleeing an ordinary urban life. Together with a few fellow dropouts, he works 18 hours a day, from May till September, milking cows and helping to produce a total of 400 wheels of mountain cheese. The camera team documents daily life filled with tough physical work in solitude and idyllic scenery. A film about alpine farms, milk prices and mid-life crises. The Swiss version of therapy for disappointed and exhausted children of urban wealth.
