(13) The High Society Of Sydney
A High society in Sydney? Paul Hogan, better known as his alter ego Crocodile Dundee, is laughing about the question. „Is there any?“ Hogans replies. On the other hand: From Sydney‘s Harbour Bridge it was always easy to spot stock exchange guru Rene Rivkin‘s yacht crusing there, with his private helicopter parked on deck.
Sydney was founded as a convict‘s colony. Now it is the capital of the biggest natural resourced industry of the world, with all it banking, trading and money making. Down at Elisbath Bay one of the most sued after properties, the Boomerang Villa, is now home of Duncan and Sally Mount and their family.. Again bought with stock trading money. When they enjoy a calm and nice day, they cruise around the harbour along the famous opera house.
Others live in villas overlooking the Northern Beaches, such as Thomas Keneally, the author of the best-selling famous novel „Schindler‘s List“, which was later transfordemd into a movie by Steven Spielberg. Is there a high society in Sydney? Maybe not. Former rigger Paul Hogan, who is a multi-millionaire now, says: „At least we don‘t have a class system. That is something from England, where it belongs to.“
* Original German title: Mondän!
